To trade or not to trade: Simultaneously optimising battery storage for arbitrage and ancillary services

چکیده
This work presents a novel methodology for determining the value battery storage system provides while participating in competitive frequency response market, considering uncertainties. Battery systems are an attractive choice power services low-carbon electricity grids and their optimal operation commonly studied matter. However, non-deterministic nature of markets is often overlooked. Here, we consider these market uncertainties device providing Great Britain’s Firm Frequency Response (FFR) arbitrage services. We use machine learning classifier to determine set all possible FFR outcomes associated probabilities. These then propagated through linear optimisation model generate scenarios, from which most likely can be ascertained. Several different classifiers bidding strategies compared, suitable maximise revenue whilst minimising probability worse-case scenario identified. It found that mean expected income overestimated by ?28% when not considered. Providing over tight band still provide significant does impede on storage’s ability real time.

To trade or not to trade? Criteria for applying cap and trade.
The use of emissions trading (cap and trade) is gaining worldwide recognition as an extremely effective policy tool. The U.S. Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Emissions Trading Program has achieved an unprecedented level of environmental protection in a cost-effective manner. The successful results of the program have led domestic and foreign governments to consider the application of cap and trade to addr...
متن کاملFacing an Arbitrage Opportunity: Trade or Wait?
In traditional thinking, an arbitrageur will trade immediately once an arbitrage opportunity appears. Is this the best strategy for the arbitrageur or it is even better to wait for the best time to trade so as to achieve the maximum profit? To answer this question, this paper studies the optimal trading strategies of an arbitrageur in a dynamic economy where the arbitrageur’s trades affect pric...
متن کاملTo Trade or Not to Trade: Non-separable Farm Household Models in Partial and General Equilibrium
Empirical evidence and microeconomic theory suggest that, in many settings, farm household production and consumption decisions are "non-separable." Non-separability may have important policy implications, including lack of response or threshold effects when incentives change. This paper extends the literature in two ways. First, we develop a non-separable farm household model with transaction ...
متن کاملTo trade or not to trade: firm-level analysis of emissions trading in Santiago, Chile.
Whether tradable permits are appropriate for use in transition and developing economies--given special social and cultural circumstances, such as the lack of institutions and lack of expertise with market-based policies--is much debated. We conducted interviews and surveyed a sample of firms subject to emissions trading programs in Santiago, Chile, one of the first cities outside the OECD that ...
متن کاملTo Trade or Not to Trade: Analyzing How Perturbations Travel in Sparsely Connected Networks
In global economics, nations are often faced with the opportunity to open or close new avenues of trade or to join new markets. These actions can be beneficial or harmful for a nation because entering a market exposes that nation to the perturbations caused by others in the market. However, joining a new market offers the benefit of lower prices and increased security against domestic perturbat...
